This blend of organic acids combined with the aromatic alcohol Benzyl Alcohol enables a broad spectrum preservative effect and will protect your formulation from spoilage. Benzyl Alcohol will interfere with certain functions of the membrane of microorganisms and on the inside it inhibist vital enzymes. The organic acids weaken the microbes from the inside aswell, due to reduced pH levels in the cell, which ultimately results in cell death. Meaning the microbes are being attacked on the outside as well as on the inside already at low concentrations.

Applications

Evicide® BBD is a preservative blend that is accepted by COSMOS and can be used in aqueous and surfactant-based products as well as emulsions. At times preneutralization is needed to achieve good solubility of the organic acids. After preneutralising the pH should be adjusted to <6 to have an effective preservative action. If used alone we advise a concentration of 1%.
